Getting started with the wrist.

First pair: Started: 23rd December 2025. Finished: 5th January 2026.

Second pair: Started: 11th January 2026. Finished: 7th March 2026.

Pattern

Made up as I went along - see notes below. Kept notes so second wrist warmer matched first, then able to make second pair in same way.

Materials

  • Jenny Knoll yarns DK - 50% Mohair, 35% Alpaca, 15% Jacob lambswool. Colour: Magenta tweed.

One pair took less than half the skein.

Notes

Daniel very pleased with first pair - lovely and warm and not too thick to play the piano in.

How I made them

Using Oslo stitch as 1 TL / 1 RL rt, / F2. (Terminology from Classen-Büttner, U. 2015. Nalbinding - What in the World Is That?: History and Technique of an Almost Forgotten Handicraft First edition. Norderstedt: Books on Demand.)

Wrist

Start at wrist and working upwards.

  • 23 stitches and join.
  • Work 8 rows.

Increase rows

Increasing to allow space for thumb.

  • Increase (2 sts into same stitch) - mark second increase stitch.
  • work 2 sts, then increase again.
  • Increase on alternate rows until a total of 4 increase rows.

Thumb hole

After 4 sets of increases, continue around row again then pause when approaching increases.

Should have 23 + 8 stitches = 31.

  • Chain 2 stitches and leave 9 stitches from previous round.
  • Join back in and work 2.5 more rows around hand.
  • Finish off on opposite side to thumb.
