Dublin dragons brocade tablet weaving in progress on my inkle loom.

Started: 22nd January 2026.

Finished: 4th April 2026.

Pattern

Pattern from Kristine Vike. Based on historic tablet weaving from about 950 A.D. found in Dublin.

Materials

Warp and weft: 31 tablets all warped in same colour - Garnhuset mercerised 8/2 cotton.

Brocade thread: DMC Mouline Metallic stranded thread colour 5282 (gold). All 6 strands.

Notes

The original was 9 mm wide. Mine is 28 mm!

Did 15 repeats with a single skein of DMC Mouline Metallic stranded thread.

Then used next part of warp for a pattern from Wollny, Roslein und Wecklein, p. 79. Using pink Garnhuset mercerised 8/2 cotton for the weft. Found the original design a bit random so updated it myself. Happy with the end result.

Enjoying brocading, but it’s very slow! So cut the warp off the loom after a couple of repeats of my variation.
